It’s just another word for manic-depression. It is a disorder that causes people to experience at least one episode of mania or hypomania and possibly depression.
Some people only have one episode, some have many. Mania is being sped up, decreased inhibitions, euphoric OR irritable, possibly even hearing voices or imagining false things. Hypomania is like mania only less severe.
Some people have mixed episodes – features of mania and depression at the same time. Some people have rapid cyclying – manic then depressed all in the same day.
It is supposed to be very treatable!!
