  Skeletons have always been seen as a symbol of our mortality, a reminder to the living that we are all going to die.

  Praying is an appeal to God, a god or some other higher authority.

  So a praying skeleton could be a reminder that we should all seek contact with the Divine in preparation for our death someday. It could mean that praying to God is futile because we all are going to die anyway. It could mean that God is such a b—–d that he’d quite happily zap you with his Divine Death Ray™ and instantaneously convert you into a collection of bones even while you’re praying to him.
